Here’s an idea to take advantage of the Christmas season to do an outreach with the freshman. Hand out candy canes with a note describing its meaning. It is a way of proclaiming Christ in a way that has eagerly received at schools that have used it.
If you are interested in using the candy cane and the story behind it, here are the essential facts about the outreach:
- The SHAPE: “J” is for “Jesus”, or a shepherd’s crook, representing the “Good Shepherd”.
- The COLOR: white symbolizes the Virgin Birth; red represents Jesus’ blood, shed for sinners; and stripes remind us that “by his stripes we are healed”.
- The HARD CANDY: symbolizes the “solid rock” foundation of the Church and firmness of the promises of God’s Word.
