A spiritual movement is taking place in Kenya, and it all started with one Kenyan teacher who has a heart for young people. Isaac Kanyingi and his wife, Tabitha, were teaching high school in Kenya when God called Isaac to attend seminary in Atlanta, Georgia. While there, Isaac heard a Cru staff member with the high school ministry share the vision of reaching every teenager for Christ. The vision resonated with Isaac, and he became an intern with Cru in Atlanta. Upon returning home to Africa, Isaac and Tabitha joined staff with Campus Crusade for Christ, and in 2002, they launched Cru’s high school ministry in Kenya.
The ministry now has 22 staff members and many volunteers who work in three cities around Kenya. Each year Cru’s high school mission teams work to help continue the growth. In 2010, Isaac sent mission teams to Uganda and Tanzania. Through the Tanzania mission alone, over 2,000 students heard the gospel, and more than 500 indicated decisions to trust Jesus as Lord and Savior. Additionally, 150 college students committed to serve with the ministry in Tanzania for one year. As God continues to bless and grow the ministry, Isaac now assumes the role of National Director of Campus Crusade for Christ in Kenya. God has taken Isaac’s passion for young people and multiplied it into a ministry that now impacts people throughout Kenya.
